Natural Gas & Oil Market Report
May 27, 2026 by Sean Dookie
Natural Gas & Oil
June '26 NYMEX NatGas Trading range today: $2.85 to $2.98.
Natgas prices have increased nearly 9% in the past 30 days, but are down nearly 21% y/y.
The current market looks bearish as storage shows a surplus and early June temps look to bring with them normal to weaker than normal CDDs.
Uncertainty of war ending peace talks with Iran is keeping oil prices elevated with fears of Crude heading back above $110 if talks breakdown further.
LNG
LNG maintenance lingers on, allowing some extra gas to be fed to the C&I sector, limiting the push to get NYMEX above $3.00.
After a 16-month halt, US LNG cargoes resume physical delivery to China with 4 vessels scheduled to deliver by mid-June.
Power
ERCOT remains the center of US summer power market attention with Texas RE generation rapidly increasing.
Before AI sets new records, a strong summer demand is expected to tighten up the market.
Today's Drivers
The Bears – ($2.90 to $2.60 range) – Cooler weather revisions, larger than expected storage injection last week still being digested, production returning to near record numbers.
The Bulls – ($3.15 to $3.50 range) – LNG exports, temps remaining elevated overnight, more attention being paid to strong long-term power demand.
Today's Special – The Big Merge
The biggest energy deal so far in the AI era is the proposed merger of NextEra & Dominion.
If/When finalized, it will be the largest regulated LDC (by market cap), combining approximately 110GW to serve roughly 10MM customer accounts in VA, NC, SC, and FL.
As a sweetener, the two companies are proposing $2.25BB in electricity credits spread out over 2 years to Dominion customers in VA, NC, SC.
This merger is just the latest in a long line of buyouts over the past few years: CNE acquiring Calpine, Blackstone buying TXNM, NRG buying LS Power, and so on, and so on.
Companies such as Sempra and AEP are already unloading core assets and doubling down on areas that support the AI demand boom – classic pre-merger positioning.
